DURABLE (Financial) POA

Without proper planning, you may be at the whims of strangers deciding what is in your best interests. Appointing a Power of Attorney while you are of sound mind allows you to ensure that your affairs will be managed in your best interests and the way that you would manage them. If you do not set up POAs while you are of sound mind and then become incapacitated and need someone to manage your affairs, it is too late to appoint a POA and a guardianship will have to be appointed by the court. However, it is a good idea to prepare a nomination of guardian document for who you wish to be appointed guardian over yourself and over your estate if the need ever arises.
